Product Description

The Monarch Pro Grips takes our award-winning design to the next level with a dual-compound construction that places the right material exactly where it’s needed. As well as this, the core now features a cut-away channel to dampen hits and reduce small bump chatter.

The result? Enhanced grip, improved comfort, and long-lasting durability.

The Monarch Pro's dual compound construction puts the right material properties in the best performing area:

- Upper half and inner flange: 15a Durometer super soft rubber;
- Lower half and bar end: 30a Duralite Compound

The underside, finger bars, and bar ends are moulded from a firmer 30A compound material called Duralite. Duralite foam is a unique blend designed to deliver both exceptional comfort and long-lasting durability. The firmer compound retains its shape and structure which gives a more positive feel when pulling on your grips and is perfect to keep bar ends protected against impacts and scuffs.

Designed with fewer constraints and shaped by more rider feedback, all with the goal of creating something a little more PRO.

Increased Control and Cushioning
The core of the Monarch PRO now features a precision cut-away channel. This channel maximises the depth of the soft 15A rubber beneath the rider’s palm, all the way down to the handlebar. The result is improved comfort, greater control, and noticeably reduced hand fatigue on longer, more demanding rides.
More Grip and Superior Comfort
Constructed from a super-soft, high-grip 15a rubber compound. By pairing this soft 15A rubber with a precision cut-out in the grip core, the Monarch Pro achieves exceptional comfort and control, effectively absorbing trail chatter and harsh impacts without sacrificing feedback.
Engineered for Durability and Pro-level control
The high grip finger bars, and bar ends are molded from a firmer 30A Duralite compound to deliver exceptional performance, comfort and long-lasting durability. It’s also ideal for bar ends to shield against impacts, scuffs, and repeated trail abuse.

BEAT THE TRAIL,
NOT YOUR PALMS

Why GO PRO?

What makes the Monarch Pro a worthy upgrade?

NEW IMPACT DAMPENING CORE

The tapered core of the Monarch PRO has been re-engineered to feature a new precision cut-away channel, positioned along the top of the grip, where riders place the highest pressure through their hands.

This channel maximises the depth of soft 15A rubber beneath the rider’s palm all the way down to the bar, enhancing vibration damping and reducing small-bump chatter across rough terrain.

The result is improved comfort, greater control, and noticeably reduced hand fatigue on longer, more demanding rides.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

TWO TEXTURE OPTIONS

Knurl (Race Control)

This firm classic has been used as a grip texture on tool handles for well over 100 years, and for good reason—a knurl provides an excellent, consistent, and aggressive grip. Each ‘knurl’ is a diamond shape creating a sharp point. It’s this sharp point that provides the grip, yet its shallow profile provides a sturdy base, creating very positive feedback and increased control compared to a mushroom texture.

The user of this grip would more likely be a racer who prefers this texture for its increased aggressive feel and precision control.

Mushroom (Trail Comfort)

The mushroom texture gets its title by looking like the classic fins on the underside of a mushroom. Used for decades on BMX grips for its ability to absorb impacts, each fin of a mushroom texture is evenly spaced with a gap the same width as the fin. This is important so that the fin can be compressed by the hand and flex into the space next to it. This provides a much more comfortable, compliant, shock-absorbing texture compared to a knurl texture.

The user of this grip could be anyone from a trail cruiser looking for maximum comfort to big hitters looking to take the sting out of hideous rock gardens and flat landings.

THICK VS THIN

People come in all shapes and sizes—and so do their hands—so having a one-size-fits-all approach to grip diameter is almost as crazy as offering a one-size-fits-all glove.

Our thin grip has a 30mm diameter on the inside and 32mm on the outside, while the thick grip has a 32mm diameter on the inside and 34mm on the outside.

This not only makes the thick grip an ideal diameter for people with larger hands but also provides an extra 2mm of impact-damping rubber compared to the thin grip.

zigzag THUMB PAD

Your thumb is the only part of your hand that grips the rear side of the grip. This means every rock, drop, root, or rail can result in a small impact and rub between your thumb and the grip, which can lead to hot spots and blisters on the inside of your thumb (particularly around the metacarpal bone/knuckle).

The Monarch Pro comfort thumbpad extends our from the grip diameter to provide more support and cushioning to your thumb, helping reduce the risk of blisters. Now in 15a soft rubber, it offers even more comfort and grip.

Cornering forces naturally cause your thumb to shift left and right, which causes the straight fins of a mushroom texture to collapse side to side.

Enter the Zigzag!
Like corrugation in a tin roof, adding corners to a mushroom fin creates additional support. The tighter the zigzag, the more solid the thumb pad becomes.

Rest assured, we’ve agonized over the angles and measurements of our thumb pad texture to give you the best thumb support and cushioning possible.

HIGH GRIP FINGER BARS

Cutting into the diameter of the grip rubber, the Monarch Pro high grip finger bars offer maximum grip and minimum distraction. These bars are moulded from 30a Duralite foam, for comfort and to ensure they retain shape and structure and deliver a positive feel when pulling on the bars.

Optimally spaced for different hand sizes and finger lengths, each finger bar is sliced into blocks, allowing each to float independently to meet the needs of riders fingers.

The Peatys design team has obsessed over the details on these bars, to find just the right balance of feel, depth, and grip. The inward cut bars work alongside the offset core to reduce the depth of rubber on the underside as much as possible. This provides riders fingertips with a much more positive feel direct to the bar when pulling up.

TAPERED DIAMETER & CORE

Tapered Diameter: A tapered grip means that its diameter increases from the inside to the outside of the grip.

This taper helps to create a more natural gripping angle by supporting your palm and reducing pressure on long rides.

The taper in the rubber also results in a thinner section of rubber on the inside of the grip (for more bar feel) and a thicker section of rubber on the outside of the grip (for more impact cushioning). This taper also works with the offset core to further increase the thickness of rubber on the top surface, enhancing impact cushioning even further!

Tapered Core: The core of Monarch Pro grip has been custom-made to take a thinner 8mm clamp rather than the more usual 11mm clamp. This is only a 3mm difference, but every little bit helps to maximize the grippable area (130mm) and minimize the overall width of the grip body on your bars.

To enable the grip to use this thinner clamp, the Monarch Pro’s internal diameter of the core is tapered, so the bar-end of the core is slightly smaller than the diameter of the bar. This means the grip bites onto the end of the bar and assists the clamp in preventing grip slip.

OFFSET CORE

The Monarch Pro core has also been offset vertically downwards within the rubber of the grip, creating thicker rubber on the top of the grip than the bottom. This, combined with the tapered rubber body and finger bars cut into the underside, gives our grip maximum comfort on the top surface with maximum grip and feel on the underside!

HALF FLANGE & PINKY RAMP

Topping and tailing the Monarch Pro grip, we've have a half flange and a pinky ramp.

The half flange is the perfect size to provide an internal bump stop for your hands and cover the hard-edged clamp bolt when thumb shifting.

The pinky ramp on the end of the grip provides you with subtle feedback and reassurance that your hands are at the edge of the bar while riding rough terrain.

SUSTAINABILITY

80% Recycled Ocean Plastics: We're always doing what we can to make our products more sustainable to produce, so all of our Monarch and Monarch Pro grip cores are made out of 80% recycled ocean plastics.

ECO Packaging: Monarch PRO Grips are packaged on a fully recyclable cardboard backing board (with the exception of the metal rivets). To further reduce environmental impact, traditional single-use plastic plugs have been replaced with moulded paper pulp alternatives. Even the finishing touches are considered, colour is added using vegetable-based black ink, helping minimise reliance on petrochemical-based dyes.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Remove old grips and thoroughly clean/degrease bars.
  2. Slide grips onto bar, ensuring the grips are fitted to the correct side. The ‘L’ and ‘R’ markings on the lockrings indicate left and right oriented grips and should be fitted to the left and right as seen by the rider.
  3. Orientate correctly so that the crown logo on the end is facing upwards. This will set a good default position for the finger bars and thumb pad. Roll forwards or backwards slightly to suit your riding position and preference.
  4. Tap the grip fully onto the bar to ensure the bar is driven fully into the tapered core. A firm whack with the palm should be fine—no need for a hammer!
  5. Tighten the 3mm Allen key on the lockring to 3Nm.
  6. Ride!

Uplifts & Bike Racks

When it comes to strapping your bike to a bike rack or uplift truck, please make sure straps go around the frame or bars rather than directly over the grips.

Compression damage caused by tie-downs applied across the handlebar or grip area isn't something we're able to cover under warranty, as it's not a manufacturing fault.

If you're worried about marking your frame, forks, or bars in the process, lay a cloth or add a layer of protection film underneath the strap first. A few seconds of prep keeps everything looking fresh, and your grips good to go for years.

FAQS

WHICH GRIP SHOULD I RIDE?

MUSHROOM

The mushroom texture gets its title by looking like the classic fins on the underside of a mushroom. Used for decades on BMX grips for its a to absorb impacts, each fin of a mushroom texture is evenly spaced with a gap the same width as the fin.
The user of this grip could be anyone from a trail cruiser looking for maximum comfort to big hitters looking to take the sting out of hideous rock gardens and flat landings.

KNURL

This firm classic has been used as a grip texture on tool handles for well over 100 years, and for good reason—a knurl provides an excellent, consistent, and aggressive grip.
The user of this grip would more likely be a racer who prefers this texture for its increased aggressive feel and precision control.

WHAT IS MY IDEAL GRIP SIZE?

Your ideal grip size depends on your riding style, trail conditions, hand size, and whether you wear gloves or not. Selecting the right grip can be as much personal preference as it is a science.

As a general rule, most people normally opt for a thin grip, but generally people with bigger hands (XL glove size and upwards) should opt for a thicker grip.
However, some aggressive riders (even those with massive hands) may prefer a thin grip to achieve better bar feel and precise control. Conversely, people with smaller hands, who might otherwise be best suited to a thinner grip, may prefer the comfort and fatigue reduction of thick grips over ultimate control.

DOES THE COMFORT Thumb PAD WORK FOR ALL HAND SIZES?

Its shape has been finely tuned to find a sweet spot in size and location, catering optimally for small hands, shovel hands, and riders who prefer to position their hands either on the inside or outside of the grip while riding.

DO I NEED TO HAMMER ON THE GRIPS?

The core of our grip has been custom-made to take a thinner 8mm clamp rather than the more usual 11mm clamp. This is only a 3mm difference, but every little bit helps to maximize the grippable area (130mm) and minimize the overall width of the grip body on your bars.

To enable us to use this thinner clamp, we’ve also tapered the internal diameter of the core so the bar-end of the core is slightly smaller than the diameter of the bar. This means the grip bites onto the end of the bar and assists the clamp in preventing grip slip.

This does mean you will need to tap the grip fully onto the bar during installation, but it really is a tap with the palm of your hand—no need for a hammer!

Check out our Installation Instructions above to find out more.

DOES THE THINNER BOTTOM AFFECT CUSHIONING?

No!
The inward cut finger bars work alongside the offset core to reduce the depth of rubber on the underside as much as possible. This provides you with a solid feel to the finger bars and a much more positive feel direct to the bar with your fingertips when pulling up.

After all, there's no need for cushioning on the underside of a grip when all of the impact to your hands is coming from the top surface.

How should I strap my bike to a rack or uplift truck to protect my grips?

When it comes to strapping your bike to a bike rack or uplift truck, please make sure straps go around the frame or bars rather than directly over the grips.

Compression damage caused by tie-downs applied across the handlebar or grip area isn't something we're able to cover under warranty, as it's not a manufacturing fault.

If you're worried about marking your frame, forks, or bars in the process, lay a cloth or add a layer of protection film underneath the strap first. A few seconds of prep keeps everything looking fresh, and your grips good to go for years.

I RIDE WITH MY HANDS ON THE INSIDE OF THE BARS, WILL THESE WORK?

Our half flange is the perfect size to provide an internal bump stop for your hands and cover the hard-edged clamp bolt when thumb shifting. This is most useful for riders who tend to position their hands towards the inside of the grip while riding (innies).

The small bump (or ‘pinky ramp’) on the end of the grip provides you with subtle feedback and reassurance that your hands are at the edge of the bar while riding rough terrain. In wet conditions or at the end of a long race run, this subtle bump could be the difference between your hand staying planted on the grip during an unexpected impact and unintentionally slipping off the end of the bar.

I RIDE WITH MY HANDS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BARS, WILL THESE WORK?

The pinky ramp is most useful for riders who tend to position their hands towards the outside of the grip while riding (outies). It also provides additional comfort for those who hang their hands off the edges of the bar when climbing, or additional thickness and protection to the grip when dropped on the floor or scuffed down the side of a car!
