Keep it Clean. Keep it Fast. Keep it Looking Mint.
A clean bike isn’t just about looks — it rides better, lasts longer, and costs less to maintain in the long run. Whether you’re spinning after work or smashing muddy weekend laps, regular bike cleaning keeps your components running smoother and performing like new.
Here’s how to clean your bike properly using Peaty’s products, step by step.
Step 1: Pre-Rinse the Bike
Start by giving your bike a gentle spray down with water to loosen up and rinse off the worst of the mud, grit, and trail slime. This pre-soak helps prevent scratching the frame or components while you scrub.
Step 2: Apply LoamFoam
Now for the magic stuff.
1. Mist Mode: Open the cap and spray LoamFoam as a fine mist all over your bike — frame, wheels, bars, everything.
2. Foam Mode: Close the cap and spray a thick foam into hard-to-reach spots like suspension linkages, fork crowns, and behind the crank arms.
LoamFoam is safe on all surfaces (even carbon and anodised finishes), so spray away.
Step 3: Scrub It Down
Bog Brush: Spray it with water and a shot of LoamFoam, then scrub the frame and large areas.
Detail Brush: Perfect for getting into tight spaces like around suspension pivots, brake mounts, and under the saddle.
Tyre Brush: Give your tyres and sidewalls a good scrub — don’t forget around the beads!
Keep rinsing brushes to avoid spreading grit.
Step 4: Degrease the Drivetrain (The Right Way)
Your drivetrain takes the brunt of the abuse, so give it the love it deserves — without damaging your bearings.
Avoid using solvent degreasers regularly — they can strip essential greases from your hub, BB, and freewheel bearings, leading to long-term damage. Instead, go for our non-solvent Foaming Drivetrain Degreaser.
Here’s how:
1. Pedal backwards and spray Foaming Drivetrain Degreaser all over the rear cassette.
(E-bike? Put it in the stand or use a T25 / M5 Allen key in the spider bolts to rotate — be careful not to scratch the crank!)
2. As the foam hits the cassette, it will naturally spread to the chain and front chainring.
3. Shift through the gears while spraying to cover the full cassette.
4. Leave for 2 minutes to soak, but don’t let it dry out — especially in hot sun. Reapply water if needed.
Step 5: Scrub the Drivetrain
• Use your drivetrain brush to agitate the cassette, jockey wheels, and chainring.
• Pro Tip: Your tyre brush can also be used on the cassette for a wider, deeper scrub.
Step 6: Rinse the Whole Bike
Once everything’s scrubbed, give the bike a thorough rinse. Use a gentle spray (not a pressure washer!) to wash off all the foam, grime, and leftover dirt.
Step 7: Dry the Drivetrain
Let the drivetrain dry naturally, or speed things up with a clean cloth or compressed air. Make sure it’s bone dry before you move on.
Step 8: Re-Lube
Apply the right LinkLube for the current conditions (Dry, Wet, or All Weather). Remember to always wipe off the excess after application for a clean, smooth-running chain.
Step 9: Add the Finishing Touches
For that factory fresh, race-day finish, use Peaty’s Protect & Shine.
• Spray it onto a clean cloth, not directly onto the bike (to avoid contaminating brake pads).
• Wipe over your stanchions, frame, and other shiny bits for a clean finish and added surface protection.
